Visiting Athlete

Today, the boys and girls from our second and third classes were happy to welcome Maurice Looby to the school. Maurice has been involved in athletics and running in particular for over 30 years. He spoke to the children about many aspects of health and fitness. The children shared the sports that they favoured but Maurice was quick to point out that even if you're not a member of a team sport, you can still keep active and healthy in your daily life. He asked the children if they like to run in the yard. Of course the answer was a resounding yes. This is the first step to all sports they may encounter in their lives. You have to run in soccer, gaelic, tennis and basketball to name but a few. So running around the school yard is an excellent start to a fit and healthy life.

Maurice then invited all four classes to the Bishop's Field. He kept the children busy for the next 30 minutes with several activities. The fox and hound game, tug of war and relay races were enjoyed by everyone. The boys and girls and their teachers would like to thank Maurice for taking the time to visit and for sharing a little of his sporting expertise with them.
