Siopa Bréagáin

Bhí lá iontach againn i Scoil Cholmáin inniu. Mar chuid den céiliúradh do Seachtain na Gaeilge d’eagraigh na daltaí ó rang a cúig Jumble Sale le difríocht amháin...bhí ar gach duine a chuid gnó a dhéanamh trí Gaeilge! Bhí sé go breá na páistí go léir a cloisteáil ag baint úsáid as an Gaeilge atá ar eolas acu go muiníneach agus iad ag baint taitneamh as. Bhí deis acu bréagáin, earraí spóirt, cluichí bord, bonnóga, leabhair, míreanna mearaí is ar uile a ceannach agus bhí rud éigin ann do gach duine.
Ba bhreá linn ár buíochas a  gabháil do na tuismitheoirí go léir as an tacaíocht a thug  sibh dúinn arís, go háirithe na daoine a sheol bonnóga blasta isteach chugainn ar maidin. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.

And the Oskar goes to...

Louis Bracken from Mrs Lyons' Second Class was the proud winner of the 'Best Junior Actor' Oskar at St Loman's Night At The Oskars which was held in Mullingar Park Hotel on Saturday night last. Louis attends stage school in Mullingar Arts Centre and his starring role in 'Only Fools and Horses' was the first of many wins I'm sure for this young actor. Well done Louis!

STEAM

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders and learners of the 21st century!

As part of Engineers Week 2019, Mullingar Library opened a STEAM room and very kindly invited our third class students to visit. All they needed was the ability to blow through a straw, play with Lego and an imagination and they were ready to test their engineering skills. As you can see from the photos below, our students were up for the challenge and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it! One boy, Alan Lobodzinski from Ms Murphy's Class had great fun creating a Lego construction and won a prize for its ingenuity. Well done Alan! Thanks to the team from Mullingar Library for their wonderful welcome and for providing a fun and engaging experience for all!

Engineer's Visit

Engineers Week takes place from March 2nd to 8th 2019. This is an annual campaign held to promote engineering as a career and the importance of the profession in Ireland. Today, the students in our fourth classes welcomed local engineer, Graham Niven, into their classroom to learn all about the profession. Graham gave examples of the various jobs that engineers undertake such as building roads, bridges, railways and large buildings. He also spoke about his own job as an engineer. The children found the subject very interesting and had many questions for Graham. A huge thank you to Graham for sharing his extensive knowledge with our students today.

Pancake Tuesday

Today is Pancake Tuesday also known as Shrove Tuesday. Traditionally, it is the day when we feast on rich foods, like tasty pancakes, before Lent begins tomorrow. In France and the United States the day is known as Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday. The French like to make a wish before flipping their pancakes. They do this while holding a coin in the other hand.

Many classes had pancake parties today and enjoyed a variety of fillings such as sugar and lemon, jam, butter, maple syrup, fresh fruit and of course chocolate spread. What filling will you have tonight?

The boys and girls in Ms Hamill's Junior Infant Class and Ms Mc Laughlin's First Class thoroughly enjoyed their pancakes today as you can see from the photos below!
