Halloween Games Past and Present

During their recent History lessons, the students in Mrs Walters'/Mrs Slevin's Fifth Class have been investigating games from the past and comparing them to the games they play today. They interviewed, parents, grandparents and teachers, asking about outdoor and indoor games. With the Halloween holidays approaching, they had a special interest in games played at Halloween. Some of the games played by the children's grandparents have been passed down from generation to generation and are still enjoyed today. As an end of term treat today, the boys and girls had great fun playing many of those Halloween games!

Chocolate Apple Treats

Today, Mrs Gavin treated the children in her junior infant class to a very special surprise because they had worked so hard during their first term in school. They were making chocolate apple treats!

First, Mrs Gavin gave every child a chocolate button to hold between pressed hands. Of course, the heat from their hands melted the button but that wasn't a problem as the children really enjoyed licking their hands clean! Mrs Gavin explained that they would need a quicker way to melt the chocolate so everyone headed to the staff room to use the microwave. Then each child took it in turns to dip their apple into the melted chocolate. After decorating with sprinkles, the excited children tucked into their well deserved treat!
