Christmas Carol Service

p1050034Our annual Christmas Carol Service took place in St Paul's Church this morning at 11am, officiated by Fr Paul Crosbie. The entire school body gathered together, with parents, guardians and friends to celebrate Christmas time with music, song and prayer. The service began with a number of musical pieces played by the St Colman's Orchestra. Children representing every class group read prayers and the school choir sang beautifully to further enhance the occasion. During the prayers, the children taking part in our living crib made their way to the altar.

Amidst all the hustle and bustle that surrounds the festive season, it's nice to take a moment to remember the true meaning of Christmas and the Carol Service today was the perfect opportunity to do this.

Recorder Concert

recorder picTo mark the end of recorder lessons for this year, the children from our Second, Third and Fourth Classes gathered in the school hall today for a short concert. Each class performed three of their favourite pieces. Mrs Garvey attended with the class teachers and they were all very impressed with the high standard. Well done to their recorder teacher Ms Aoife Gavin and to all the children.

Evening Recital

orchestraThe sweet sound of music could be heard emanating from the school hall last night. To celebrate and appreciate the wonderful musical achievements of our school choir and orchestra, family and friends were invited to an Evening Recital. The orchestra opened the performance with the lively 'Singing in the Rain' and continued with 'Greensleeves', La Cumparsita', 'Lark in the Clear Air' and finishing with the very popular 'Waterloo'. There were also some fine solo performances between each group piece.

It was then the Choir's turn to take centre stage. They began their performance with 'Believe' and moved on to sing the upbeat song 'The Candy Man'. They slowed the tempo down and sang the traditional song 'May the Road Rise to Meet You'. The evening came to a close with the choir singing the song 'Gravity' from 'Rain Falling Up'. Congratulations to all the children who performed so well and to their teachers who worked with them throughout the year.

There is without doubt some magnificent musical talent in St Colman's and last night's Evening Recital proved this.
