Making Recycled Paper

3rd Jun 2024

In our class, this week, we have been learning about the features of procedural writing. We decided to create, and write up a set of instructions on how to create, recycled paper.

For weeks we have been collecting paper, in our class recycling box, to use for our experiment.
We began by shredding the paper.
We then placed the shredded paper into a large box.
We filled the box with water and allowed the shredded paper to soften by soaking it for 2 days.
Next, we placed the paper, along with some of the water, into a blender and blended it until it was a thick pulp.
We poured the pulp through a sieve and took turns stirring and pressing down in an attempt to squeeze out as much excess water as possible.
Finally, we each took handfuls of the pulp to flatten down in a rectangular piece of greaseproof paper to dry.
We are currently waiting for our paper to dry out over the long weekend.
When it has fully dried, we will get a section each to produce our own picture on.
