'Mighty Me' Masks

29th Oct 2023

Mindfulness is a wonderful tool for both young and old but as with many things in life early intervention is best. Teaching children how to practice mindfulness will help them to manage their emotions and tackle challenges. The lucky students in Ms Kelly's and Mrs O'Hara's First Classes learned all about mindfulness this week with the help of student teacher Mr Ennis.

Mr Ennis read a story about 'Bea'. In the story, Bea speaks a lot about our superpower, which is our breath. Of course, practicing mindfulness involves us inhaling and exhaling. When we concentrate on our breathing like that, we learn to focus, gain self control and ease stress and anxiety.

The children also discussed the many positive traits and super strengths they possess, just like superheroes...kindness, creativity, being helpful, brave and respectful, to name but a few.

To complement all these wonderful superpowers, Mr Ennis brought the fun into their Art lesson. He gave the boys and girls 'Mighty Me' masks to decorate with junk art. He challenged the children to come up with a name for their individual mask, using their superpower words.

As you can see from the photos below, the children thoroughly enjoyed making and wearing their masks!
