Newly elected members of Student Council welcomed by town Mayor
Members of the new St. Colman's Student Council for the current year have been formally welcomed by Mayor of Mullingar Cllr. John Shaw in a ceremony at the school today. The Fianna Fail Councillor also made a presentation to members of the outgoing council and congratulated all students who ran in the school elections encouraging them to run again next year if they were unsuccessful this year.
Mrs. Walters hosted the ceremony which was also attended by Mr. Beehan.
She congratulated the newly elected students telling them, "It is all about making a difference and being heard" and invited them to tell the guest of honour about their manifestos.
Mrs. Walters invited members of the outgoing council to tell the gathering about various ways in which they had made a difference including helping raise funds for a defibrillator.
She spoke to this year’s unsuccessful candidates telling them "Putting yourself forward is a very brave thing to do. Don't give up, run again next year. Your day will come."
The Mayor answered questions put to him by the children in the room including "What inspired you to become a politician?" and "What was the hardest thing you ever had to do as a politician?"
He presented newly elected members with their badges and presented outgoing members with vouchers.
