As part of Science Week, we were invited to the National Science Park in Mullingar. The children were split into groups and were given a guided tour around the factory. Each group were shown a selection of robots, which were carefully coded to carry out a particular function. They also saw a 3D printer at work, got to explore a variety of things produced by the 3D printer (e.g. running shoes, tools, dental tools and even a part used for a hip replacement during surgery) and then got to keep their very own piece produced by the printer. The children had a lot of fun learning about virtual reality and experimenting with green screen technology. It was a very interesting and enjoyable trip.
