Signs of Summer Walk

8th Jun 2024

On Thursday morning Junior Infants were collected by their buddies and we all went on walk together to look out for signs of Summer which we had been learning about. Our first stop was at the Horse Chestnut tree across from the school.
In Autumn we had found conkers under this tree. In Winter we looked at it's bare branches. In Spring we saw the buds which grew into new leaves and just a few weeks ago we saw the white flowers which looked a bit like candles from a distance. Up close we could see that the flowers now form the start of the hard prickly cases that they conkers will grow in. We are going to go on one more trip before our summer holidays to see more changes!
We then walked along the towpath of the canal and saw lots of flowers like daisies, buttercups, clover and dandelions. We could hear and see lots of birds and we also heard the bells ringing in the Cathedral at 10.15. We saw where the River Brosna goes under the canal and talked about how we see the the river again near Dealz and the Town Park . When we got back to school we could smell freshly cut grass as our caretaker Declan was busy at work. Everyone enjoyed the walk and chats and we look forward to the next one!
